Strategy for Winning Face-offs

Here are some important tips that will improve your winning percentage on face-offs:

BODY POSITION
- Use the leverage of your whole body to win the face-off… not just your arms. Body should be in a low position - skates split wide - knees bent - bottom hand in a low position on the shaft of the stick.

THE DRAW
(Timing combined with quickness & strength)- Eyes should follow the drop of the puck out of the linesman’s hand. Pull the blade of your stick through the face-off dot on your backhand or forehand. Turn your body in the direction you want the puck to go.

DEVELOPMENT-
Take a number of face-offs each practice. Try to develop both a forehand and a backhand draw. Be determined to win every face-off whether in the defensive, neutral or offensive zone. Good luck!
