BOARD PLAY
Effective board play
requires skill, toughness and intelligence. An
important skill is recovering pucks that are rimmed
around the boards. This can be done with your stick,
feet or body. It's a skill that requires a great
deal of practice.
Sometimes you have to 'counter-pinch' in your
defensive zone against a charging defenceman. At
other times, you simply have to out-battle an
opponent regardless of his size. On offense, an
alert 'chip' off the boards is often more effective
than a direct pass in high traffic.
