Two-on-One: Offense
A 2-on-1 rush is one of the
most exciting situations in hockey. The offensive players
have an advantage here and it is their responsibility to
create a scoring chance. Here are some things to consider
if you find yourself on a 2-on-1 rush:
- If you're going to pass,
pass early in front of the defensemen. Delaying too
long improves the defenseman's chances of stopping the
pass across and also helps the goalie. Remember, a
well-executed pass in front of the defenseman forces
the goalie out of his stance and across the front of
the net.
- If the pass is not there
by the top of the face-off circle, shoot the puck.
You're in the scoring triangle here so make sure to
get your shot on goal. The player without the puck
should drive to the net with his stick on the ice for
a rebound or deflection.
Scoring chances are hard to
come by during a game. The teams that make the most of
their opportunities usually win. Good execution on
2-on-1's will greatly improve your team's chance of
winning.
