3 on 2's: Defence
Defending against a 3 -2
rush requires the following:
- Good positioning
- Quick sticks
- Good anticipation
As the rush develops, the
'D' should keep a tight gap if possible. Occasionally, the
rush can be pinched off at the blueline. Most often
however, it is necessary for the defencemen to stay in the
middle of the ice between the centre and the wingers.
It is very important not to commit to one forward, which
could result in a 2 on 1. The 'D' need to keep their
sticks well out in front of them, ready to deflect passes.
The 'D' should attempt to keep the puck wide as long as
possible. Should a pass be made back to the slot, the 'D'
in front of the net must release and attack the slot
forward. Hopefully, a backchecking forward may also arrive
in time.
