DEFENDING A LEAD
Good teams work hard
to defend a lead once they have it. Here are ten
tips to help your team defend the lead:
- get the puck in
deep on the rush… don't give the opposing
defencemen the opportunity to initiate a
counter-attack
- avoid neutral zone
turnovers
- avoid odd-man
rushes
- get the puck out
of your zone at all costs
- avoid retaliatory,
stick or other needless penalties
- keep shifts short
- defence should not
pinch
- no blocked shots -
defencemen especially
- avoid back or drop
passes
- goalies should
freeze the puck as much as possible to allow
fresh players onto the ice
