GETTING OPEN

Whether you are on a rush or working around the net, getting open for a pass or rebound is a necessary skill for goal scoring. Probably the best player in the NHL for getting open is Brett Hull of the Detroit Red Wings. He always manages to find the open area. On a rush, there are times when you should bust through to the net but at other times you should slide into the slot. Around the net, it is much like a pass receiver in football. You need to fake one way and then go to the open area. Reading the play and getting open will increase your scoring chances.
