Featuring Hockey Tips from Roger Neilson and NHL Stars from the Roger Neilson's Hockey Camp

WEEK 19 TIP

February 4th, 2002

ROGER NEILSON
Camp Director
Ottawa Senators, NHL

Counters

Counter attacks occur when the offensive team turns the puck over in the neutral zone or at the opposition blueline. When the puck is recovered, quickness is the key. All the forwards must get available quickly before the opposition can recover. In the Stanley Cup playoffs when the checking gets really close, counters are the best way to get scoring chances.

Keys:
1. Quickness
2. A middle drive to the net
3. Shoot at every opportunity - a shot and rebound is usually better than a pass
