Dumping the Puck to Create a Forecheck

Dumping the puck into the offensive zone can be used to create an aggressive forecheck and often results in a scoring chance. Here are some effective ways to dump the puck, especially when facing a goalie who likes to play the puck:

SOFT CHIP
  • Off the boards by the defender. The puck can be retrieved either by the chipper or the support man driving through the middle.

CROSS CORNER DUMP

  • To a streaking winger in an attempt to get a shot on net or to create a cycle, while keeping away from the goalie.

HARD AROUND THE BOARDS or GLASS

  • Keep the puck away from the goalie.
  • Winger or centre will retrieve puck to start forecheck and the player dumping usually becomes the 'high-man' on the forecheck.
