Practice As You Play
As a whole, we tend to overlook the
importance of 'work ethic' in our practices. Like most
teams, whether it be at the House League level, AAA, or
the Pro's, we are on the ice more during practices than in
our games, so the habits we develop must be good ones.
Doing drills at 'game pace' or 'game speed' helps us to
prepare when faced with similar situations when it counts.
I also feel that the 5 or 10 minutes prior to practice
should be spent working on your puck handling instead of
shooting pucks into the empty nets. The more confident you
become with the puck, the better your entire game will be.
Remember, we are never too old or too good to improve our
skill level. Every summer, many NHLers enroll in skating
clinics or conditioning camps to help their game gain an
edge in the always improving National Hockey League.
