Led
by Larry Pearson, the unique off-ice
program compliments the on-ice program. The emphasis of Roger
Neilson’s Hockey Camp off-ice program is on Team Building,
Leadership and Hockey Specific training.
The goal is for each
participant to understand what it takes to be a better team
player.
The program stresses
Personal Growth through personal and team challenges.
Team leadership and
teamwork are enhanced through challenging activities that
require leadership skills such as: goal setting, planning,
communication, problem solving, decision making, conflict
resolution and effective frustration management, personal trust
enhancement, team spirit and fun. These
valuable skills and attributes are developed at camp and can be
introduced to your teammates when you return home.
The activities get
the participants into exercising, thinking, cooperating, risk
taking and feeling good about their accomplishments.
The kind of
competition we practice is aimed at developing strong
individuals and group unity.
Activities are
debriefed so that players become aware of not only what they did in
the activity, but also what they learned from the experience.
Then the process is examined to identify how the lessons learned
can be transferred to on ice situations.
The fitness program
and training emphasizes hockey specific components and training
ideas for cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and
endurance, power, speed and agility. Current training and
winning edge concepts are introduced and practiced. Slideboards,
dynabands, circuits and speed training drills are utilized.
Training for speed off-ice can be transferred to speed on ice.
